I was invited to play the Killeen course at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club on Good Friday this year by a good fiend and member Barry O’Sullivan and in the company of my son.
Approaching the course is spectacular as you meander your way through the course on the way to the clubhouse as the lakes and mountains come into view.

There is a huge pro shop with something for everyone and reasonably priced. Staff are very warm and helpful and knowledgeable on the merchandise and provided us with a few helpful tips for the course.
Having experienced a very wet winter, the course was in great condition and the greens while not at summer speeds, were very healthy.
On a windy day this course really challenges the handicap golfer and so it proved for our group. Having said that I managed an 82 with a couple of birdies on the front 9.

There are a number of standout holes with 18 being my favourite. From a high teeing area, you are faced with water running down the left-hand side. This feature has recently been upgraded with walling and mini bridges a nice feature giving it more definition. With a number of trees down the right it is important to hit the fairway. At 382 metres this is not a short hole and the green is protected by a couple of bunkers and an undulating green complex. A par 4 here to finish your round will make your after-round drink that little bit tastier.
We dined afterwards in the Clubhouse lounge which sits on the first floor with a panoramic view on the mountains lakes and bot golf courses. The food was lovely and the hospitality first class.
This course has hosted the Irish Open on a number of occasions and should be part of your golfing itinerary should you plan to play in this part of the Kingdom. With the adjoining O’Mahony course this is a one stop shop for a short weekend break with plenty of off course attractions to entertain a group of golfers.
