Thanks to my partners in Golf Genius , I was invited to play this course in late September 2025. I had heard many fine things about Luttrelstown and it did not disappoint.

The Clubhouse on arrival is a beautiful architectural sight, and surprisingly cosy on the inside. A well appointed Pro shop with extensive product lines leads on the bar area for casual snack. This sits adjacent to a wonderful outdoor terrace which we were happy to populate.

We warmed up on the short game area, took a few loosener drives and off we set to the first tee.

The course offers tee boxes that support a wide range of handicaps, from beginners to seasoned amateurs, but it’s a beast off the back tees. Choose your tee box carefully to get the maximum enjoyment from this excellent track.

The course was in excellent condition and the greens provide plenty of undulation to challenge the golfer. If I had a slight criticism it was three of the four par threes, played very long and required this golfer to hit two four irons and one hybrid to reach them.

Considering the course is only 30 years old, it was a joy to see mature trees lining many of the fairways, creating a sense of history and character that many courses of a similar vintage lack.

However the design is a really strong feature of the course where reward is offered when placing your tee shot in the right area. There is a number of water features on the course but while aesthetically pleasing rarely hindered your shot. The rough was very playable and the greens ran at approximately 9 on the stimpmeter.

Overall, the course is out in front of you and scoreable, but with an SSS of 74.1 against a par of 72 you begin to understand the challenge this course delivers.

This course is only 20-25 minutes from Dublin City Centre and the green fee rates are very competitive. I would highly recommend this course, and won’t be surprised to see it gain even more popularity in the years to come.
