It was an absolute pleasure to return to Seapoint Golf Links recently to play in a match against the Northern Irish Club Managers Association.

The club, which opened in 1993, was co-designed by professional golfer and Ryder Cup player, Des Smyth. It neighbours the renowned Co. Louth Golf Club (Baltray), offering provides golfers on short trips the opportunity to experience two excellent courses.

Playing Partners approach to 18th

Seapoint Golf Links has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, with significant investment in both the course and the clubhouse under the watchful eye of Managing Director @Andrew Phelan.

Host to the Legends Tour in 2023 and 2024, the course is a coastal treat, featuring a superb collection of traditional links-style holes. It has also played host to the Irish PGA Championship and, most recently, hosted the Irish Men’s Amateur Open, won by local favourite Stuart Grehan.

15th Green

A par-72 layout, we played from the white tees measuring 6,108 meters. While it offers plenty of scoring opportunities on a calm day, we had to contend with a strong offshore breeze which made the final stretch particularly challenging.

The course features some terrific par threes, including my favourite hole – the 17th. Nestled deep in the dunes, it has a narrow entrance and measuring 156 metres from an elevated tee. It was a well-hit 6-iron for me…..pulled left!

Winners on the right, Losers on the left!

The course was in excellent condition, with many rivetted bunkers adding to its visual appeal. The greens were running at about 9 and produced a lovely, true roll.

We enjoyed a delicious three-course meal afterwards, and I could not speak more highly of the quality of the food – first class.

All in all, Seapoint Golf Links provides golfers with a genuine links experience at a very competitive price. In addition, the club boasts excellent warm up and practice facilities, including a putting green, chipping area, bunker area, and a full driving range. No excuses!

Lost & Found

In a previous post, I bragged about triumph over our Welsh colleagues, so it is only fair to mention the our visitors from Northern Ireland got the better of us this time with a 3-2 series win.

My thanks to Mark Ruddy, CCM of Club Management Association of Ireland (CMAI) for the kind invitation.
