Club Finals Day – A Special Tradition

The third weekend in September was always reserved for the All-Ireland Football Final. Times have changed, but not at our club – where the highlight remains our annual Club Matchplay Finals.

This season-long knockout series came to a climax with 18 finals played in one day, involving more than 50 players. Formats included men’s and women’s foursomes, fourballs, scratch matchplay, juniors, and veterans.

The day finished with our Golfer of the Year presentations across men’s, women’s, and juniors – a true celebration of competition and camaraderie.

For me, this year was particularly special. My partner and I made it to the Fourball Final. We had a brilliant match played in the right spirit (with a few nerves on show!). But more than anything, I was delighted to finally be part of such a memorable club day.

The organisation from our committees was outstanding, and the atmosphere was buzzing – plenty of silverware and plenty of smiles.

So, what has this got to do with golfing holidays? Absolutely nothing! 😊 But it highlights what makes golf so great: community, competition, and shared experiences.
