Brooks or Bryson? Who Would You Bring on a Golf Trip?

Brooks or Bryson? Who Would You Bring on a Golf Trip?

Every now and then, a golf debate pops up that feels impossible to answer. And here’s one of them:

If you could bring either Brooks Koepka or Bryson DeChambeau on a golf trip, who would you choose?

For some, that’s like choosing between jumping off a tall building or swimming across the Atlantic—neither sounds especially relaxing. And after their famous feud a few years back, one thing’s for sure: they aren’t both coming along.

Still, as golfers, they are undeniably elite—seven major championships between them. And choosing between them says as much about you as it does about them.

Why I’ve Always Leaned Toward Brooks

I’ve always been a Brooks Koepka fan. On the course, he’s cool, clipped, and clinical. At his peak, he owned major championship golf—ice-cold under pressure, mentally unshakeable, and capable of intimidating opponents simply by existing.

Then came Netflix’s Full Swing, which revealed a very different version of Brooks: vulnerable, rattled by form and confidence, weighed down by injury. His decision to move to LIV Golf felt less about advancing his career and more about securing financial certainty during a difficult period.

But 2023 changed everything. His PGA Championship victory at Oak Hill was a reminder of who he really is—one of the great major performers of his generation. Since then, his form has ebbed and flowed, and his autumn swing through several DP World Tour events hinted at a player trying to rediscover his spark.

And Then… There’s Bryson

Ah, Bryson DeChambeau. What do we make of him?

First, let’s acknowledge the obvious: he’s a star. His YouTube content has exploded, and he has a global following that stretches far beyond traditional golf fans.

On the course, he’s now a two-time U.S. Open champion (2020 at Winged Foot, 2024 at Pinehurst). His scientific, almost experimental approach to the game is both fascinating and unorthodox—from playing single-length irons to floating golf balls in water to check their balance.

His power has always been a headline, though his extreme bulk-up phase—fuelled by an eye-watering 8,000 calories a day—was short-lived. He’s since remodelled his body into something far more sustainable.

Unlike Brooks, Bryson is a natural showman. He feeds off the crowd, and his Pinehurst win was the perfect example—using fan energy as jet fuel.

Yes, he also moved to LIV Golf, but despite moments of brilliance, his results there haven’t quite matched the hype.

So Who Would I Bring on a Golf Trip?

For me, the choice is clear: Brooks.

It’s not that I don’t admire Bryson—he’s compelling, entertaining, and sometimes downright brilliant. But on a golf trip? I suspect his energy would leave me exhausted by the third hole. And the last thing I need is to be tempted into swinging out of my shoes because he’s beside me sending moon balls into orbit.

Brooks, on the other hand, seems mellow, worldly, and grounded. His time grinding on the European Challenge Tour means he’s been around the block, and with an Irish caddie, he surely “gets” us on a cultural level.

Your Turn

So that’s my take. Who would you bring on your next golf trip—Brooks or Bryson?

I’d genuinely love to hear the arguments… because with these two, there are always plenty.
