Course Review: Albatross Golf Resort

If you’re after a modern, championship-calibre course within easy reach of Prague, Albatross Golf Resort should be top of your list. Opened just over a decade ago, it’s become the Czech Republic’s go-to venue for professional events and a favourite for visiting golfers who want immaculate conditioning, big strategic holes and excellent practice facilities.

History

Albatross is a relatively new addition to Central Europe’s golf map — the resort opened in 2009 and was developed as a modern championship venue, built from the ground up with professional tournaments in mind. In a short time, it has grown into a national flagship, regularly featuring in “best course” lists inside the Czech Republic.

Course designer & layout

The 18-hole Albatross course was designed by Keith Preston — a golf architect who created a strategic, parkland/links-style test that uses the site’s rolling terrain, water features and plenty of bunkering to keep every round interesting. The routing includes significant water hazards and many well-guarded greens that reward thoughtful course management.

Facilities on site

Albatross isn’t just a course — it’s a full resort for players and visitors:

  • Modern clubhouse with restaurant (KOGO), members’ lounge and meeting rooms.
  • Extensive practice complex: a large driving range with covered bays, two putting greens, multiple short-game areas and dedicated practice bunkers. They also run a Golf Academy with launch monitors and putting analysis tech.
  • Pro shop, event/tournament services and event spaces for corporate groups.

Getting there — access from Prague

One of Albatross’s biggest selling points is proximity to Prague. The resort sits to the west of the city and is commonly quoted as about a 20–30-minute drive from Prague city centre and some 15–20 minutes from Václav Havel Airport (traffic dependent). That makes it extremely convenient for short golf breaks tied to city stays or incoming flights.

Course quality

Albatross is widely regarded as one of the very best courses in the Czech Republic — praised for top-level maintenance, presentation and tournament-grade conditioning. Independent course guides and traveller reviews consistently put it at or near the top of domestic rankings.

Value for money

Albatross tends to sit at the upper end of green-fee pricing in Czechia — you’re paying more than some municipal or older clubs — but reviews and third-party rankings often say you get what you pay for: first-class conditioning, quick pace, outstanding practice venues and professional service. Many visitors regard it as good value when compared to other European Tour-standard venues.

Hosting of major tournaments

Albatross has a solid tournament pedigree. It hosted Ladies European Tour events (Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters in 2011 and 2012) and since 2014 has been the home of the D+D Czech Masters on the European Tour — a clear signal of the course’s standard and the resort’s event capabilities.

Three great reasons to play Albatross

  1. Tournament-grade conditioning — the greens, fairways and practice facilities are maintained to a professional level you rarely find so close to a capital city.
  2. Superb accessibility from Prague & the airport — perfect for a day round or a short stay-and-play break without losing travel time.
  3. World-class practice & coaching — an expansive academy and high-end tech (launch monitors, putting analysis) make it ideal for golfers who want to work on their game as well as play.
